Important Note

Speedway has moved into Loadster Site & API Monitoring.

If you have an existing Speedway account, you can use the same credentials to sign in to Loadster. Don't worry, your monitors haven't missed a beat and your monitoring data is intact. Everything that Speedway did, Loadster now does the same or better.

We're leaving the Speedway documentation up for the time being, but strongly encourage you to refer to the Site & API Monitoring section of the Loadster manual.

Integrating Speedway with Opsgenie

Opsgenie is a modern incident management tool for operating always-on services. It’s a popular way to receive alerts of downtime and other incidents, escalate or assign them to the right people, and improve your time to issue resolution.

Speedway can automatically create an Opsgenie incident for you when one of your API monitors detects a problem.

How It Works

Whenever one of your API monitors fails, Speedway will create an incident in Opsgenie within seconds. Opsgenie then routes the incident to whoever’s on call, so you can investigate and resolve it right away.

When the same monitor recovers, because you fixed the problem or the API outage resolved its own, Speedway will update the incident in Opsgenie to mark it as recovered.

With automatic incident creation and escalation, you’ll save valuable minutes and achieve better site reliability and uptime.

What You’ll Need

All you need is an Opsgenie account and a Speedway account.

You’ll want to create at least one Speedway monitor if you haven’t already, so Speedway will have something to report to Opsgenie. If you haven’t done that, set up a monitor.

Enabling the Integration

Setting up Speedway to talk to Opsgenie is quick and only needs to be done once. There are two ways to do it, and they are slightly different depending on whether you want to route incidents to a specific Opsgenie team, or to everyone in your organization.

To route incidents to a specific Opsgenie team:

  1. In Opsgenie, create a team or choose an existing one, and go to the Integrations section for that team. Click the Add integration button.
  2. Select API as the integration type.
  3. Opsgenie will generate an API Key for this team integration. Copy it to your clipboard. Then submit the form.
  4. In Speedway, go to the Integrations section of your dashboard.
  5. Find the Opsgenie section and click Enable Opsgenie.
  6. Speedway will prompt you for the API Key that you recently created in Opsgenie. Enter it and save to enable the integration.

To route incidents to your general Opsgenie account:

  1. In Opsgenie, go to the global Settings page and navigate to the section called Integration list.
  2. Select API as the integration type.
  3. Opsgenie will generate an API Key for your account.

Now that the Opsgenie integration is enabled, Speedway will create incidents in Opsgenie whenever a monitor fails or recovers.
